My passion is science.
When I was in grade school, I was considered the “smart” kid. This trend continued until I reached middle school, when I went from being above average to an average student. It wasn’t that I lost my intelligence, but I did lost my incentive. A lot of drama occurred during 6th grade, which I let overcome my focus on my education. Despite this struggle and stress, I rediscovered my love for science.
By going to Girls Love Science Too, I will get an inside look into how to become a better scientist. Also, I will also be able to meet people who have the same passion and to discover new things about this particular subject. I feel I know a small amount about what science truly is from school, but I would like to learn much more about it.
"Kalena is an excellent candidate for the Girls Love Science Too program. She is a serious student with college aspirations, and she is passionate about science. Her thoughtful and reflective observations will benefit her classmates at the institute. She will also benefit by experiencing a college-like environment, where she will be able to develop her academic skills and gain greater confidence in her abilities."
First and foremost thank you to everyone that supported me and helped send me to Girls Love Science Too! My experience there was a very interesting one. The first couple of days there, I struggled. It was my first time going to a camp where I didn't know anyone, so it was hard to meet people. However, I overcame this struggle by sticking through the camp and eventually, I made some good friends and enjoyed my time there. I loved getting up early to go tide pooling and learning about all the wonders of the ocean while doing so. Overall, this experience was a great way for me to explore marine biology and also better my social skills.
Once again, thank you for everything!
I'm attending Girls Love Science too in July, and I am so excited to go! I've always loved science and anything involving it. So, when I got the opportunity to join Wishbone and apply for this camp, I was absolutely thrilled about it. I've always especially loved marine biology, being that I've lived in the Bay Area my entire life and have visited the beach numerous times. The ocean is so close to me and feels just like home. For Girls Love Science too, I'm most excited to meet new people and study the tide pools. Overall, I'm really thankful to be apart of this program and to have the opportunity to study the beautiful ocean!
