My passion is psychology.
Last year, I read a book called “Making Habits, Breaking Habits: Why We Do Things, Why We Don't, and How to Make Any Change Stick,” by Jeremy Dean. It talked about people's habits and how those habits affect their lives. Furthermore, this year I started getting more books relating to these topics and I realized I was interested in psychology. It is interesting to see how the human mind functions in different situations like when making decisions, they can be influenced by other people. I talked about my passion for psychology, but I'm also interested in political science, and history. All these topics intrigue me because they all involve human society. I believe when an individual becomes aware of how society works then your perspective and understanding of the world expands. I also believe you can begin to make a positive change once you learn how our world functions.
I believe the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes will help me pursue my passion for Psychology because psychology and other various interesting topics are within social science and that program has it. My school does not provide these topics so with this program I will be able to determine how I feel when learning more about social science and its various topics. Through this program, I will have the opportunity to connect with people who share common interests in these topics making a possibility for connections. Having common interests will strengthen my passion for psychology I believe. Attending the program will give me the opportunity to explore my passions more in-depth. I believe I will learn more about how our world works and how I can take the necessary steps to follow my passions to create a positive change.
Jackie is one of the most teachable students I have encountered. She brings a flexible and healthy mindset to anything that is handed to her, and does the rare and very difficult job of attaining both academic and social intelligence. While extremely ambitious and high-achieving, Jackie has not had enough experiences that have given her a solid footing on what she wants to study in college. I believe that the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes would greatly influence Jackie, an individual who is so receptive and eager to learn, and help her not only to ascertain her future academic goals, but also to envision herself socially and emotionally at an excellent higher learning institution.
Thanks to Wishbone and all the people who contributed I was able to learn so much about myself and others through this program. Three weeks with amazing people made me get out of my comfort zone and realize that we are more alike than we are different. I am feeling very grateful for such a great experience.
Thank you all for your fundraising efforts this year! We are happy to fund the remainder of your campaign!
