Angela's Story

My passion is art.

Through my family, I have been surrounded by culture and art, and it has deeply affected my way of seeing beauty in the world. My home was always surrounded with art from different artists, especially Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

Frida Kahlo was such an influential artist and became a huge motivation for me to become successful as well. Much like her, I've learned to show my surroundings and emotions through art, and I have been improving a great amount in recent years. Art has become my emotional outlet and the discovery of my talent has given me confidence and happiness. I do not care if I become unknown or famous in the future, all I want is to forever create art.

A Note from Mrs. Martin, Angela's Mentor

Angela is a very dedicated student and has a deep passion for the arts, which she pursues to the best of her ability on her own. Based on the beautiful artwork she has already completed and displayed in our classroom, I would love to see what potential she could unlock with some advanced training. She has a natural talent that in many ways is impeded because our school does not offer daily art classes. Already, Angela has used the limited resources we have and created art for our classroom that makes the more like home.

Post-Academy of Art University summer program

I am very grateful for having the opportunity to attend this program. It has greatly impacted the way how I perceive art, and encouraged me to further develop my skills and pursue it as a career for the future.

For most days, I had to wake up as early as 5 in the morning in order to get to my classes on time. Despite being exhausted and filthy (from charcoal and materials), I still felt that it was worth it all. It really did let me grow as a person and cherish the time I had there.

Thank you so much to those who made it possible for me to have this opportunity. I would not have been successful without you.

My pre-attendance update for the Academy of Art Pre-College Program

This summer, I will be attending the Academy of Art Pre-College Program. With this program, I will be able to attain the proper and high quality education I need, while still being affordable and at my reach. I chose to attend this program because it will help me push my boundaries and seek higher level education for my art. The program will also provide me with learning experience and develop better skills.

I am looking forward to building a sense of independence and self responsibility through this program. Since the location of this program is far from my home, I will have to commute daily and depend on my own skills to arrive on time at my classes everyday. This responsibility will not only help me in this program, but also for the future when I am at a university or in general. I am also looking forward to finding new connection through the other students attending and the teachers in my classes.
