My passion is learning about different cultures.
Not too long ago, I discovered this thing called “kpop,” which stands for “Korean Pop.” Korean pop is a style of music that comes from South Korea, and in my opinion, it’s the best thing ever! After listening to kpop for a few months, I slowly became fascinated with South Korea’s history, culture, language, food, and people.
Global Young Leaders Conference is an amazing summer program that will help me further explore my passion for learning about new cultures. Students from all over the world coming together is the perfect way for me to learn about new cultures. Together, we will be able to learn from each other and create new friendships. This is the opportunity of a lifetime.
I was born in the Dominican Republic to a big family. Eventually, my father found a way to move my brothers and me to the United States, but we had to leave my mother behind. Five years later, she was finally able to join us. Although it was the best decision my father ever made, it was extremely difficult to adjust to a new place filled with a variety of cultures and beliefs. I believe that my experience learning how to live in America after growing up in the Dominican Republic inspired my passion for cultures and the world as a whole.
"Lisselot is also an excellent candidate for the Global Young Leaders Conference because she exemplifies what it means to be a leader. While Lisselot is confident and charismatic, she also knows how to listen to the words of the people around her. Her open-mindedness allows her to synthesize the ideas of many in a group in order to be successful at many different tasks.
While Lisselot has accessed many resources to explore and better understand cultural differences around the world, she has not had much exposure to leadership opportunities that integrate culture. Attending the Global Young Leaders Conference would allow Lisselot to see how her abilities as a leader and her passion for culture could come together to help her create change in the world."
Attending GYLC was definitely an eye opener. I learned so many things about myself and what I am capable of. Although it was kind of stressful because I was away from home and friends, it was an experience of a lifetime, I met new people from all over the world. I learned that I will not be able to stay away from home without being somewhat stressed at times, but that learning languages and being able to communicate with other cultures is something that I want to pursue. I am extremely thankful for those who made this possible, may God keep blessing you always.
I've been blessed with opportunities like these. I'm so thankful for everyone's contribution to my campaign, truly I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to attend the camp. I'm so excited to meet the people who will be attending the program with me. My family thanks you as well because if it wasn't for your help, I wouldn't be able to have this chance to join other teens around the world with the same interests as me is amazing and I can't wait!
Go see the world! Hopefully more than just K-Pop! 😝
Dear Lisselot,
I wish you a wonderful and enriching experience this summer!
