Kennedy's Story

My passion is Medicine.

I have always been passionate about medicine and learning how to cure people. I discovered this passion when I was six years old. After my sister passed away due to heart failure, I was devastated and I never really understood why. My mom saying “Troi was sick” didn't sooth my curiosity neither. I was only six and I felt bad because I could do nothing to help. I thought that if I became a doctor, I could bring her back. Ever since then, I wanted to be a pediatrician and learn how to cure ill children. Growing up, I always pictured myself as a doctor. I even performed transplants on my stuffed animals. To this day, I have been passionate about medicine and the lives of others.

Attending Discover Hopkins will help me explore my passion because it will help my future endeavors because it will expose me to different fields of medicine. Even though I have my mind set on becoming a Pediatric Neurosurgeon, I think branching out and becoming familiar with other sciences it a good skill to have. It’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know. Attending Discover Hopkins will allow me to meet several like minded people who are as determined as I am. Despite my background, Discover Hopkins will allow me to step out of that label of being just a minority and allow me to be the young, intelligent, African American scientist that I know I can be.
