Shannice's Story

My passion is cooking.

Growing up, I would watch my grandmother or father in the kitchen and wanted to cook like them. Mac and Cheese was pretty much all I could make then, but now I am able to make a whole meal and more. Cooking is my passion because I really enjoy it and see it as an art. I plan to be the chef of my family when I’m older. In order to do this, I would like to have more experience with cooking. Sticking to the basics, such as chicken or rice, can get boring after a while.

Attending Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens will develop my passion because I will learn to cook various dishes that go beyond boring foods that anyone can make. Learning from experienced chefs will give me valuable practice. There is nothing better than the feeling of being able to cook a fantastic dinner and being able to surprise your family.

"When I met Shannice as a bright-eyed freshman, I was in awe of her positivity from day one. She would be the first person to come into the room each morning and greet me with a smile and a "HEY Ms. Palumbo!"

Shannice's joyful demeanor will brighten up ANY group she becomes a member of, but I am particularly excited for her to attend a cooking program. Food is a passion of Shannice's, and she will often share her snacks with me when she sees I'm looking a bit sluggish. It's clear that, for Shannice, food is one of the ways she can show her care and love for others, specifically her close-knit family. In addition, I think the ability for Shannice to meet students other than the ones at her high school will broaden her scope and help enhance her cultural capital as she meets people with other experiences from different backgrounds. This kind of diversity will no doubt help in her expertise with cooking."

I am very excited to be attending culinary camp!

This summer, I will be attending Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens. At this camp, they will be teaching us how to cook a certain type of food each day. We will be in full chef attire from head to toe. I was interested in attending this program because I love to cook -- I have learned a lot from my mom and grandmother. Cooking is something very time consuming, but if you have a love for it, then it can be the easiest, most exciting thing ever. I love the idea of finding new foods to cook because cooking the same thing over and over can get boring. Not only will I learn new things to cook, but I can also improve my cooking skills by learning new techniques.

At Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens, I look forward to meeting new people and making new friends, getting new experiences, and improving my cooking. In the kitchen at home, I will be able to cook up a storm. The Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens is a great program for any young adult who is trying to pursue a career in culinary arts.
