Art--a concept deeply held within an individual with strings of intangibility, yet total comprehension. An invisible force manifesting itself in the souls of society, emerging on a medium because of the release of adrenaline and disastrous situations; or prompted by completely boring, repetitive circumstances, desiring vibrant pigmentations of paint and erratic brushstrokes to add some flare to life.
For as long as I can remember, art has consistently been a part of my life. Whether it be learning how to play an instrument, sketch a nose, sing a song, writing, or experimenting with mascara, the concept of art has been unabating and profound.
However, with the progression of time and consuming obligations, I have had less and less time to learn different techniques regarding artistic ventures. In fact, I almost never have time to just sit down and draw, let alone investigate alternative art approaches.
To be given the opportunity where I can essentially immerse myself in an artistic environment is indescribable. Not only would it expose me to a concept I've never even dreamed of trying, but would inherently help me determine which art field would be the most applicable in my life.
We are a small charter school of just over 300 students crammed into second-hand portable buildings that leak when it rains. We are a racially, ethnically, and academically diverse student body. Beyond our students, teachers, and portable buildings we have few resources. To travel to and from classes, to participate in group projects, and to learn with your classmates is truly a practice of empathy and social awareness. Zanib demonstrates the highest level of empathy of any student at our school because she is so aware of who her classmates are; she knows their names, parts of almost all their stories, their senses of humor, and their struggles. Students who know Zanib would most often describe her as the most compassionate and kind-hearted classmate they know.
My program was super eventful and interesting, even though it was a two day course. We learned numerous techniques regarding how to pick up our rods, gather glass, blow glass, heat up glass, etc. I felt very enlightened after.
More than anything though I feel I am just more aware of how humans have taken resources and created amazing products.
I am very appreciate of every glass I drink out of now :)
Have fun!
She deserves the opportunity to shine!
Zanib is awesome!
