Kassey's Story

My passion is government and public policy.

I discovered this passion after I saw John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State, address the country about foreign affairs. Working for the government as a Foreign Affairs Advisor is a very powerful position because they conduct negotiations with foreign countries and allies. They have a more broad perspective on the lives and living conditions of others globally.

When I attend college, I want to major in history, government or political science. The Junior Statesmen Summer Institutes will provide the opportunity to learn more about political action, public policy and government relations in preparation for my future career.

A Note from Ms. Barker, Kassey's Teacher

Kassey, both inside and outside of the classroom, has pushed her peers to high-level understandings of complex topics, such as post-colonialism, intra-race oppression, social hierarchies, Black female positionality, Double Consciousness, and the existence of multiple truths, etc. These are exceptional skills that, when sharpened with experience, will become assets for future Public Policy and Foreign Affairs positions that she aspires to occupy.
