My passion is engineering. I have taken an Introduction to Engineering Design course and am currently taking Aerospace Engineering. To actually test my interest to in engineering, I attended a summer program at the University of Connecticut last summer. I had the opportunity to explore the different types of engineers there are in the world and their jobs. I had begun to realize that Civil and Environmental Engineering was for me. As I become closer and closer to going to college, I begin to realize that the experience and exposure I get as a student is really important. I want to challenge myself and my skills in engineering, to explore and go deeper in my passion.
Attending Syracuse University will be an amazing opportunity not only to expand my ability to develop my engineering skills, but to also have a sense of what it would be like to be living on a college campus.
If one resource is precious to Yarleny, it's time: she has taken the most rigorous course load available to her in 10th and 11th grade, including courses like AP Calculus, but still opted to take academic electives like Intro. to Engineering Design and Aerospace Engineering. Yarleny will benefit from the Engineering program at Syracuse University's Summer College because it will give her time to focus exclusively on her intellectual passion without also having to balance her other classes and extracurricular activities. Furthermore, I believe that Yarleny will benefit from working and interacting with students of her caliber who come from a diverse array of backgrounds; this will push her intellectually, and make her even stronger as she returns for senior year and prepares to apply to selective colleges.
