My passion is pediatrics.
Pediatrics is my passion because I love kids and helping people. When I was younger and someone in my family got hurt, I was always the one dressing the wound. Pediatrics combines both my love for kids and my love for helping people. Knowing I can do both is my passion.
I will further develop my passion by attending the Three-Week Summer College at Ithaca because I will be able to see and experience different fields in health care. Attending this program will provide me with hands on experiences that I will help me enter college more informed about the different facets of the industry. Furthermore, this program will challenge me to advocate for myself and ask questions if I need it.
"Taveon is a top student and an incredible dancer. She balances an heavy academic load with significant extracurricular commitments. When Taveon is preparing for a show, she is in class from eight to five, heads to rehearsal for three hours, and still manages to take care of at least three hours of homework. It's impossible to maintain a strong GPA in the face of such a demanding curriculum without passion, persistence, and motivation. Taveon has all three.
Taveon wants to be a doctor, but at her small charter school, she doesn't have the opportunity to take classes to explore this passion. At Ithaca College, she will at last have the opportunity to take a class that will help her prepare for her future career. She has the grit and spirit to make the most of the opportunity."
I attended Ithaca Summer College for three weeks, and I really enjoyed my time at Ithaca. My experience allowed me to be less dependent on my family and become more independent. I enjoyed taking the course Health Sciences: Careers and Foundation. Before going to that class, I had my mind set on becoming only a Pediatrician, but after hearing many speakers speak on their profession, I walked away with other interests relating to healthcare.
After classes, the R.As and the other staff helped to make Ithaca enjoyable. Each day we had a different activity that students could attend that were fun and engaging. Coming from New York City, it was pretty cool to look up in the sky at night and be able to see stars, and the scenery was beautiful.
One takeaway or advice from this trip would be time management. I had to realize that there was time to play, but also time to focus on just work. Because we had daily activities and homework, I had to decide which was my priority. I was able to find a balance and was able to do both the activities and homework, but other days I realized that it was okay to skip the daily activities because there will be another activity planned for the next day.
I overall enjoyed my experience and thank you giving me this opportunity to experience college.
I am truly grateful and excited to attend Ithaca's Three Week Summer College, where I will be taking classes on Health Sciences: Foundations and Careers. I chose to do this program because I know that I would like to do something in the medical field and this course will be able to introduce me to different fields within the medical field. I am looking forward to being away from my family for three weeks and experiencing what it feels like to be off at college and become more independent. I am also excited to meet new people from different parts of the country and the world. Lastly, I cannot wait to learn life skills such as budgeting.
