My passion is football.
In middle school, I was a really timid person, however that all changed when I met the person who is still to this day my best friend. He was the most amazing person I had ever met, and was everything I wasn't. One day in gym class, I was in a corner watching him play football. He seemed to notice me sitting alone, so he suggested I try and throw a football. Of course I was extremely reluctant to do so. My brain was yelling at me, "Don't do it before you embarrass yourself and he'll think you're a loser!" Yet for some reason, after he kept asking, I threw it. My throw didn't go very far, but it was honestly the most fun I had ever had and from that point on, football became a passion of mine.
To be honest, I was somewhat surprised by Kevin's decision to chose US Sports Contact Football Camps as the place he wanted to be over the summer given his apparent interest in science. However, after discussing with Kevin his choice, I think the football camp would be a wonderful experience for him. He feels as though the camp will be a great opportunity for him to challenge his "shyness," and allow him to explore extracurriculars that are different from those he is currently involved in. Though he has loved football and playing football since middle school, he never felt as though he had the resources, programs, or time to learn how to become the best player he could. As a result, most of the skills he does have come from playing pick-up football games in the schoolyard or park. This camp will give Kevin a chance to formally hone these skills with coaches, teammates and regular practice.
This football camp experience was insane. Our daily routines involved breakfast, 2 hour training, lunch, 2 hour training, dinner, and then another 2 hour training. Honestly it was incredibly draining, but it was amazing to experience. My coaches taught me college level drills and tactics during training and I ended up learning so much more than I expected. I met a lot of new people who shared my interests and we would have fun after practice in the break room playing pool and chess. I got tackled. So. Many. Times. But that was part of the experience and I enjoyed every tumble, I'm glad I didn't break my spine through all of them. This experience also taught me to be independent, when camp was over I personally found how to get back home to the Bronx. I paid for a peter pan bus and an Amtrak train, where I got to view some more of Connecticut's area. As I jokingly told my friends, "I feel so adult-y now", and I do. I can take responsibility and solve problems on my own. Camp was so amazing and I honestly can't thank all the donors enough, you have all helped me achieve something I could never do on my own. I also feel more confident in participating in college football when I grow up. My only regret honestly, was not asking more people for their contact information.
I am going to attend US Sports Contact Football Camps this summer, and it's very exciting. Everyone tells me that this will be a good opportunity for me to open up considering my introverted nature, and I agree. It will be enjoyable to be surrounded in teenagers my age that also enjoy football, and to also be able to be taught by a real coach. I wouldn't have been accepted if it weren't for the help of wishbone and everyone else that donated. I've always fantasized about playing in college football, and this camp may be the first step in achieving my goal some day!
Hope you have a great time at camp!
Best of Luck Kevin!
