My passion is becoming an actor.
I discovered my passion of becoming an actor when I was younger. I used to always watch movies and wish I knew how it would feel if I was on the screen doing the same thing the characters in the movie were doing. I would play characters out and just see how it would feel to be in an actor's shoes. Then when I got to high school my passion for being an actor grew because I took theater class for a semester and just fell in love. Acting is like a challenging art piece to me. Acting creates memories and keep others entertained.
Attending US Performing Arts for the Camera at Amherst College will help explore my passion because it will give me insight on how the acting industry operate. At this program I will learn all the tricks and tips on how to be a successful actor and being perfect at my future career. This program seems to be very professional and serious about creating the world's new generation of actors and actresses. The program would give me great practice to perfect my skills of being the best actor ever known. I will take all that I learn to build my understanding for being an actor.
The biggest obstacle I would have to face in a black neighborhood is the fact that people don't believe that I could pursue being an actor. Many people think that becoming an actor is a hard task and something that would be impossible and I would not successful. Even though these thoughts do pass my mind that maybe I won't be successful, in my process to becoming an actor, I still know that everything is possible and I shouldn't doubt myself. I will show to my peers and community that I will be a successful actor and become a role model to the other generation.
As Jevaughn's theater teacher, I could not think of a better program for him to pursue. Jevaughn has a clear passion and innate talent for acting; theater class is where he truly excels. No matter what task I assign my students, Jevaughn is always the first volunteer to bounce exuberantly onto the stage. He takes risks and is a true role model for all of the other theater students due to his fearlessness and bravery. Not only that, Jevaughn's enthusiasm and zest set him apart. No task is too daunting; whether he's acting, miming, directing, improvising or writing, he brings a level of joy and enthusiasm to his work that is unparalleled. Unfortunately at our school we do not yet have a fully-developed theater program, and so Jevaughn's opportunities to develop his passion have been limited. Despite these limited resources, he has taken advantage of every performative opportunity available to him. I would love to see him have the opportunity to refine his talent and explore his passion at a summer program such as this one.
