My passions are learning, social justice, science, the human psyche and law.
Ever since I was little, I've been obsessed with detective shows such as NCIS, Cold Case, Law & Order (SVU), etc. I've always wondered how people's minds worked, what makes us tick. I wonder things such as: Can someone be born with an inherited addiction, bad or good? Is someone's outcome in life a matter of nature vs nurture? I've always been the type of person to ask questions, never satisfied with the answer of "just trust me on this one." I try my best to persevere, discover, and learn as much as possible.
By attending Lehigh, I will be able to expand my knowledge on the many branches of the criminal justice system, and come to a final decision on which one(s) I would like to pursue as my career. As I have gone through high school, and as I approach my senior year, I have changed direction several times in what I have wanted to major in when I arrive to college. However, I have always known that I wanted my career to be in the field of criminal justice.
Destiny's passion for keeping up with contemporary global politics was always impressive when we discussed current events during class. The evidence for her dedication as a student, despite limited resources, was measurable by her continuously effective use of time, both inside and outside the classroom. Her dedication to searching for a role that suited her in the criminal justice system helped keep her involved in school themes dedicated to law and social justice. While many of her peers procrastinated, Destiny found time to research and explore issues of social justice that fascinated and drove her boundless appetite for knowledge.
I met Destiny when she landed in my United States History class at High School in the Community Academy for Law & Social Justice. She stood out and excelled beyond pace to rapidly achieve mastery in my class. I have continued to watch Destiny grow as an outstanding student and a capable young woman.
First and foremost, I just want to say thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who donated to and shared my campaign. It truly means the world to me that you were all so willing to help me reach my goal.
My week at Stonehill College was one of the best in my life so far. The program was a definite push outside of my comfort zone, seeing as though I have never left the state for a summer program, and that I was the only person from CT. By being pushed outside my comfort, I met some amazing people with whom I hope to continue to build life long relationships with. The staff was an amazing group of kind hearted people who really loved their jobs.
The program definitely strengthened my interest in the forensic sciences, and helped inform my future career. I looked forward to class each and everyday. From learning about blood typing to investigating a crime scene, it was a memorable course. If I could do it again, I most certainly would!
Again, thank you so very much for your generosity. You will never know how grateful I am.
Sincerely,
Destiny
have a great time and we wish you much success going forward
