My passion is medicine.
As a young child, I watched my uncles and aunts who are doctors being successful and happy. Every single day, they are changing the world by helping someone and ultimately changing their life, which means the world to them.
The first time I really learned about medicine was in middle school. I still remember this one time in 7th grade when I was studying for a test about the heart. A family friend of ours was coincidentally studying for her medical license exam at that time. She thoroughly explained how the heart pumps blood which I found and still find fascinating.
Now, I'm taking biology and I love learning about how our body works. Medicine helps people in very interesting ways. For example, if your organs are bleeding, surgeons will cut you up to stop the bleeding. Isn't medicine just amazing?
Amara would enjoy being in such a superb environment that motivates and supports growth in the medical field. Being surrounded by students with similar goals and a program focused on her interests would only further motivate and encourage her to pursue a career in the science field. She is an extremely motivated and has great participation but our class has a strict curriculum and large class size. Being in a smaller and more nurturing environment would be beneficial for Amara to focus her interests.
The two weeks I spent at Discover Hopkins were just incredible. We went on many trips in our class, thus I bonded a lot with my fellow classmates. After class, we would explore the campus and the area around it. Often, we would go to the gym together before eating dinner in the cafe. The RCs were welcoming and couldn't be nicer. Within two weeks, I got extremely close with my friends so when it was time to leave, we were all crying. I'm still in touch with them, and I plan on it staying that way.
As for the class, it was very eye-opening. I learned so much about where medicine, the very field I want to go into, originated from. It all makes logical sense now. In addition, the class trips to the Johns Hopkins Hospital's labs were fascinating. We got to go into an actual pathology lab and meet the workers as well as see lab rats.
This was an unforgettable experience and I loved every part of it.
I'm so excited to go to Discover Hopkins for the summer! I'm enrolled for one of the Health Studies courses which is just perfect. It'll be incredible being at America's first research hospital. The trips planned out sound intriguing.
I cannot wait!
