My passion is science.
I always thought that math was my favorite subject because it was easy for me to use numbers. Now that I've gone through algebra 2 and geometry, I can connect my prior knowledge of math to science material. I also like science because sometimes we learn by working with illustrations or models. Even physics grabbed my attention when I learned how to calculate different types of energies. My enjoyment for science is what made me choose the Girls Love Science Too program.
The program Girls Love Science Too will help me explore my passion by learning about the sea world. Just by reading the overview of the program, I found it interesting. I am not sure what I want to become after high school but I want to be something that relates to science and medicine. I hope that with the new knowledge that I will learn, I find a passion that will help me when I go to college.
"Monica is a student who exemplifies both caring and resiliency. She always interacts positively and patiently with those around her. She has a strong drive and would benefit from being around other like-minded young girls who "love science too" as the motto goes at Camp SEA lab. This experience would certainly change her life trajectory if she were given the opportunity."
I am so grateful that my donors gave me the opportunity to attend Camp Sea Lab this summer. It was so fun to learn about organisms that live in the intertidal zone and then being able to go tide pooling and identify and explore everything I learned. As we were learning we were also having fun. I learned how to kayak when we went on a tour to learn about sea otters, harbor seals, flying birds, and sand dollars. My first time boarding a vessel was also when I attended Camp Sea Lab and got the chance to see a mola mola. Meeting new people that came from different places was challenging for me at first because I thought I wasn't going to relate to them but, after stepping out of my comfort zone and interacting with other girls, I had a great time learning about them. Thanks to my donors I was able to do many things that I never thought I could do.
This summer I will be attending Camp SEA Girls Love Science Too. It will be fun to participate in this program because we will learn about the marine world. My school is small so it rarely offers students the opportunity to join programs during the summer. I was given the opportunity to sign up for a program I was interested in with help from the Wishbone team. This program will allow me to take a step out of my comfort zone and meet different people.
I can't wait to collaborate and share my ideas with other girls. I chose this program because I'm interesting in learning about sea life. By participating in this program, I believe I will meet my goals of working with people and expanding my knowledge.
Do good work and pay it forward. The best to you and your future endeavors.
Thrilled to hear you are pursuing your education. Knowledge is one of only things that will never leave you; also, your female friends are for life. Stand by yourself, and always stand by other women. All my best.
I support women in science. I believe in learning by doing, so a hands on experience to know if you really LOVE the sea. I was so impressed when I visited your school that I was inspired to help you.. I hope you have a wonderful adventure!
