My passion is art.
I discovered this passion in first grade. I remember finger painting, coloring with color pencils, crayons, oil pastels, anything my little fingers can grab. This followed me, and by fourth grade, all you would find me doing was hiding my face in a sketchbook and drawing my life away. In freshman year, my artwork was chosen to be in the Norwalk art gallery, and it was also featured in a calendar. That's when I knew that art is a part of who I am and my goals.
Attending the Saint Rose Pre-College Summer Experience would help me explore my passion for art even more because my love for it would grow during the two weeks, and I will also see what is possible for my future with art. Not only this, but this experience will also help me learn new skills in art or improve upon what I struggle in. Lastly, this would help me push to continue doing what I love.
Daisy is an excellent candidate for the Saint Rose Pre-College Summer Experience. She stands out as a hardworking young lady who is mature for her age and has persevered through very difficult circumstances in her life. I am confident that this will provide her with opportunities she would not get in Bridgeport, CT. She is a well-rounded, outgoing, compassionate, and unique young lady.
I have seen Daisy explore her passion for the arts in many ways. She constantly drew when given the option to express her answers visually in Language Arts. She summarized key scenes in our class novels with beautifully drawn re-enactments. She assisted in designing the yearbook, even completely drawing one page, which highlighted the key trends of her 8th grade year. It was beautifully drawn and her class loved it. She was an excellent student in art class and her work was consistently above and beyond the requirements. When I think back on the hundreds of students I have taught, Daisy stands out to me as someone who had the most creativity of anyone I taught. Even in her writing, her vocabulary and thinking was creative and passionate. She was never afraid of taking risks in her work and it always paid off.
Considering this was my first trip away from home, I think it was perfect in many ways. I learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses in drawing, and improved in using different mediums such as charcoal & ink. I also went out of my comfort zone and learned how to weld, which I never imagined myself doing. Speaking of going out of my comfort zone, I made friends on this trip as well. One of the people I met lives about 25 minutes away from me, and we plan to continue seeing each other. I also met a guy named Henry who showed me how different NY is from CT. The counselors at St. Rose treated the overnight students very well, and we were like one huge family! I enjoyed the activities they had planned for us after dinner, especially our trip to Lake George on Saturday. This trip will be unforgettable and I would like to thank you Wishbone for giving me this opportunity.
Although it is just May 13th, I can already feel myself taking a step into the college I will be visiting for 2 weeks. As you may already know, I am attending the Saint Rose Pre-College Summer experience in July! Creating art has always been a panacea to my life struggles and has molded my being to be who I am today. Attending the program will help me learn more about Art and as well as improve areas I struggle in, so I can become better and continue to work on it afterwards.
I honestly cannot wait to meet new people who also have a passion for art. Can you imagine what creative mindsets can become once they intertwine? I also can't wait to tell my friends about this because many of them know how immense my love is for art, especially the ones I've grown up with.
Lastly, this program will help me decide whether I want art to be a part of my future career, but I know for a fact that this opportunity will prove that I surely want it to stay in my life for as long as I live.
