Lizbeth's Story

My passion is to become the first engineer in my family.

Since I was a little girl, I was extremely curious. One way to explore my curiosity was through technology. However, in my community there are not a copious amount of Latina women in the computer science field, which is disappointing to me.

Making a positive change in my community has always been one of my passions, and I enjoy combining that passion with technology. Attending the National Teen Leadership Program would give me the opportunity to discover the qualities that will make me a leader in my community.

"Being in a college environment and around students from outside the Boyle Heights community will be a powerful experience for Lizbeth. Not only will she get to meet students from all around Los Angeles and the country, but she will really get to dig deeper in her love of technology. Lizbeth has a story to tell and often struggles to find the right words to do so. With the support of the program, Lizbeth will be set up for success as she transitions to college."

National Teen Leadership Program

NTLP was an amazing time and you honestly feel that the people that participate in the program with you become your new family. You learn how to problem solve and how to work together in groups. The most challenging part was that I had to leave my house for 3 days, but the program was amazing and I really liked the people I met there.
