My passions are Learning and Pediatrics.
Nelson Mandela once said " Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". I love this quote because I believe that without education, how can someone truly get ahead in life? To succeed in life, you have to work hard and make sure you stay on top of all your classes in school. Education for me is how I'm going to make my family proud of me, reach my goals and repay my mother for everything she sacrificed for me and my little sister. I'm also passionate about becoming a Pediatrician because I want to be able to help people in need of medical help. I want people to come to my office sick and when they leave, they feel a whole lot better then when they came in.
After College I want to attend Medical School to later on become a Pediatrician. Ever since I was a kid, I had always wanted to be a doctor. I remember being in the doctor's office as a kid and thinking " one day I want to have a office just like this". The person that really inspired me to become a doctor would be my godfather who is also a Doctor. Attending National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine will be a great learning experience for me. I absolutely love learning new things and to know that I will get a chance to learn about my future career is really amazing.
One of the biggest obstacle that I have faced was when I came to live in the U.S. I was about 6 years old when I came from Haiti and it was really hard for me to learn a new language and getting used to the new environment. I only spoke French and Creole and it took me a while to start getting used to speaking English. If I hadn't been an ambitious little girl, I probably would have had to repeat the second grade and right now I would have been a sophomore in high school.
Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School is not the easiest environment to succeed academically. At times, it can be very difficult for a student to focus and desire to forge ahead of the crowd as working hard at academics is not the fashion. You would never really know this is an issue faced by Nehissa because her ability to smile and absorb negative energy as if it did not exist is awesome. Although seemingly quiet, she is not. She makes her mark through persistence and commitment. No matter how negative things are around her, she shines brightly maintaining an honor roll average. She visits all her teachers, makes up any missed assignment due to absence and does not shy away from doing her best academically.
Nehissa is compassionate, kind, committed and adamant about doing her best. I am all too sure that once into a medical program, she will overcome any obstacle to finish it to the best of her ability. She will then take what she has learned to share and benefit her community.
The National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine was an amazing program. Im so happy i got to attend because i learned so many things. I met amazing longtime friends and i gained more self confidence. Attending the program motivated me to keep pushing and achieve greatness.
I raised enough to go to my program in the summer! I'm really looking forward to going and exploring new things.
