Emily's Story

My passion is leadership development. For as long as I can remember, leadership has been an important aspect of my life. Coming from a family who has unfortunately suffered many hardships, I felt the need to gain some balance. Thankfully, I found that in leadership. Throughout my highscool career I have been a member in the Bell Gardens High School color guard. Being a member has taught me many leadership skills including time management. As a 3rd year member, my goal is to be the color guard captain and lead the team to success. I know it will be a rigorous task to achieve, but I am up for the challenge. I have learned skills that are vital in leadership, but I feel that there is always more to learn.

The National Teen Leadership Program is unlike any program I have ever heard of. It brings teens from all around the world and teaches them how to be better leaders in their own community and everywhere they go. This is the perfect program for me to attend because the staff at NTLP know how to connect leadership to fun yet meaningful experiences. I believe that by attending this program I will make friendships that will last a lifetime and learn lessons that I will think about for ever. I hope I can bring what I learned to my hometown, and inspire my peers to be leaders, for the good of our future.
