My passion is to explore new things. My passion makes me feel different emotions. I feel that others should get to experienced what I have experienced. For example, when I get to go camping with my family I get to experience new things and I want other families to go out and experience them too. When I went camping for the first time I felt happy because it was a time that my family was reunited and we could enjoy each other. When I am in a new place, I am curious to see and learn about new things.
I was around six years old when I began to be around animals. I was in Mexico at my grandparents' farm where they had lots of animals. At that point I knew that I loved helping animals. This program appeals to me because i get to go somewhere I haven’t been to and learn about marine wildlife. I am also looking forward to the cultural exchange portion of the trip because I would get to learn new things about other cultures. This will impact my future goals by helping me decide what i would love to study later in life. Biology has been an interesting topic for me in high school and maybe this would be what I would want to study in college.
Since Luz has found out about this opportunity, she has pursued it with vengeance. She had tracked me down to get information and support filling out her interest form. She has sought out information from others. I have not seen her give up in other situations. In fact, I consider all of my students remarkable for not giving up despite the hardships they have faced in their lives. Luz has not had a lot of opportunity in her life and has not seen the benefit of how one's outlook can impact their future. However, since Luz has been interested in pursuing a summer opportunity, she has blossomed. I believe she has seen how this opportunity can help her learn and grow and she is hungry for this experience. I think Luz is a student with tremendous potential yet has not had a lot of opportunities in her life. She has not been able to experience what it means to broaden her horizons and take risks. I think an opportunity that will allow her to do this will unleash a very passionate and adventurous young lady. Since she has decided to apply for Wishbone, Luz has become assertive, hopeful, and confident, all from the "idea" of going away on a trip. I do not think Luz has been able to see herself as the type of student who gets this opportunity so I think having this experience will truly be life-changing for her.
My first day started a little rough due to our flight being delayed. I was really shy because everyone already had a day to meet each other and I did not know anybody just yet. One thing that surprised me a lot about the program is that they cared about our health and the way we felt.
Watching the baby sea turtles hatch and seeing that most of the eggs were rotting in the sand had a great impact on me because I learned that life is risky and not everyone will survive. You have to make the best of every situation and keep going forward. This program made me realize that sometimes it might be hard being away from the people you know and love, but it is the best experience you can have because you get to meet new wonderful people that have the same feelings as you. This program taught me a lot of life lessons, including how much we need to help the environment. It made me realize that caring and helping animals is something I would like to do. I would definitely recommend this program to a friend because I enjoyed what I was doing and it made me think in different ways about wildlife and cultures.
I leave for Costa Rica today and am really excited! I am excited to experience a new environment and to get to learn about and help animals. I am really nervous to be somewhere I haven't been before, and it is going to be hard to not think about my family and home. In order to keep my mind off of this, I am going to take pictures and make a video diary so I can feel like I am talking to my family. Thank you again for helping me experience this trip. I can't wait to tell you more.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your generosity and support. Without people like you, students wouldn't have an opportunity to go out and seek for their passion. You get to help others and make their dream come true. Thanks for your donation, it will help me become more independent and have more experiences. Without your help I wouldn't have had the opportunity to see new places and meet new people. Thank you!
