My passion is being able to help others whenever they need it.
Growing up, I was always around to help others, whether it be at church or school.I wanted to make a difference in their life, whether it be something as major as donating clothes to charity or something as minor as greeting them. In 10th grade, I became involved Med Share. Med Share is a non-profit organization that distributes unused medical supplies from hospital to those in need. After becoming involved in Med Share, I wanted to become involved with the medical field; I found a path that combined helping others and medicine.
I want to attend Washington University High School Scholars Program because I want to pursue this passion. I want to be involved in the medical field in hopes of changing lives in the future. To reach this goal, education is needed. This program offers different classes in a college-setting. I hope to take the Pre-Medicine classes offered at Washington University.
"Karrin is a good candidate for Washington University because she is passionate about science as well as helping others. Karrin will benefit from this program in a variety of ways. It will be a new challenge for her and she excels when pushed. Also, she is a student that makes the most of the opportunities she is given. Finally, as she enters her senior year, it will be an invaluable experience for Karrin to experience a college environment. This will hopefully allow her to narrow down her college search as well as explore something she is passionate about."
UPDATE: It's been a week since I've arrived back in Cali! Once again, I want to thank all my donors for making this possible for me. I want to thank my advocate, Curt, for getting all the necessary paperwork and writing my recommendation. Most importantly, I want to thank the Wishbone program for accepting me and helping me along the way.
Throughout my experience at WashU, I learned a lot of life lessons. I encountered several obstacles during my 5 week stay, but those obstacles formed into lessons that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Lessons:
-Cup of Noodles will be your best friend during college
-There will always be obstacles along the way, you just have to break through!
-Be cautious of those around you
-College food isn't healthy...
-Always ask for help! TA and professors are there for you!
Once again, thank you so much for donating to my campaign.
I can't believe it's day 17 of my journey at WashU! I have to admit that I got a little homesick along the way. I've met so many amazing people that have encouraged and supported me throughout this journey. Shout out to all the donors (you!) who have donated generously in making this journey possible. My mid-terms and finals are coming up (wish me the best of luck!). I can't wait to come back to CA to share my experience with everyone else.
For the first time ever, I will be on my own for 35 days. I am scared that I might get lost. I am afraid that I'll get homesick. However, I can't let this opportunity go past me! I can't wait to meet new people and experience college first-hand.Through this experience, I hope to become more responsible and less dependent on others!
