My passion is learning.
I discovered this passion through my excitement towards my extracurriculars and academics. Though my dedication to music and sports has been carried from middle school to high school, winning a rugby game and successfully playing the last guitar riff is just as exhilarating as getting a 90 on an AP US test. All three carry an awful load of responsibility but the same sense of determination, perseverance and love of learning has been driven through my academic, musical, and athletic career.
Being a part of the Emory Pre-College Program will help me develop my love for the sciences. As a kid, the only class that caught my attention was science, and advancing in school has only made my passion stronger. My passion for the sciences is shown particularly in taking my school’s AP Chemistry class. The class is only taken by 11 kids out of the 949 students in my school, and the work is rigorous. Being a part of Emory’s Pre-College Program will help me dive into my collegiate dedication to the sciences and help me determine if a career in science will bring me future joy.
When I reflect on the tenacity of Emilia, I must quote the screenplay of The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, "Our lives are defined by opportunities; even the ones we miss."
Emilia has made amazing strides to be a young woman open to a myriad of opportunities in her academic career and her vast collection of interests. As a young Latina in New York City, these opportunities have not been given freely, but have been earned through hard work, dedication and the personal pursuit of academic rigor and excellence. Emilia has been a conscientious student regarding her grades and where they can take her when she is not enrolled in school. Regardless of what she is currently engaged in, Emilia is always looking forward and outward of New York City. She is constantly exploring what the world has to offer in the arena of science educational opportunities.
Thank you so much for helping me attend Emory's Pre-College program! I had so much fun learning new concepts involving Neuroscience and had a blast learning about how much diversity there is around the world! I met so many different people on campus and I am extremely grateful for this life changing experience! Not only did this program help me learn new things but I have become a better me! It was sooo refreshing to meet new students that care about their education and are just as curious about the world, and the brain, as I am! Again, thank you and I hope you had just as a great summer as I did!
So excited for you Emilia! :)
