My passion is medicine.
I've always been interested in learning ways to lend a helping hand. This is when I first knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I know that with education and research, I'd be able to really make a difference in people's lives.
Attending the Centenary Summer Scholars will help me extend my knowledge on healthcare because I will be able learn a lot more information at the program than what I would receive in a regular high school course. Being in the program will give me access to more hands on and interactive lessons. Having the opportunity to speak with someone that is currently working in the medical field allows me to find out what it is like being a doctor, what an average day is in a doctor's office or hospital setting, and what is the best part about being a doctor from the perspective of someone who is currently working in the field. In the end, I think Centenary Summer Scholars will give me the chance to actually have an idea of what type of doctor I want to be.
Saraiya is a great candidate for Centenary Summer Scholars because she is very passionate about the healthcare field. As a freshman, Saraiya joined HOSA (Healthcare Occupations Students of America) which allows students who have an interest in the healthcare professions to explore multiple fields, as well as compete at a state level with other HOSA chapters. These competitions range from medical terminology, to First Aid/CPR, to Nursing & Medical Assistant. If a student places in the top three, they move on to Nationals. Seeing how much Saraiya enjoys HOSA, I can see how much she will benefit from the experience she will receive from Centenary Summer Scholars.
My trip to Centenary College is right around the corner. In order to prepare and get my self ready for my stay at Centenary College, I'm finishing up the paperwork required for my trip and getting the necessary items that I will need. I'm currently in the middle of packing my clothes. I'm very excited to be able to continue my love for science and the medical field outside of the classroom. I can not wait for my trip to Centenary Summer Scholars in New Jersey. Before I leave I want to give a big thank you to my donors because with out all of your support I would not be able to go to my summer trip.
