My passion is medicine.
I discovered my passion for Medicine through my mother. She would come home with stories of how she had patients come back to her with tears in their eyes, thanking her for giving them a second chance at life. I decided that I wanted to have a that significant of a positive change in people's lives. Medicine seemed more than fixing people's bodies, it became giving people more time to be with their families, to pursue their passions, to create new memories. Medicine became a field I viewed as dedicated to making people's lives better. Once I became interested in this field, I enrolled in a CREC school whose overarching theme was medical professions as well as teaching. This high school gave me many opportunities to discover different profession in healthcare and research the medical field in general. That is when I truly fell in love with medicine.
Miriam, at her core, has a science mind that just seems to click. She makes connections that even my twelfth grade students have difficulty with. Sure, the AP curriculum was a beast for her at the beginning of the year with the increased workload and rigor, but she has shown a resilience beyond her years. What's more, her science knowledge has grown in leaps and bounds due that intrinsic nature she has. She asks astute questions, and the prose within her scientific discourse is something I wish all my students had. She, at the Brown Summer@Brown program, will be getting to put those science talents to use in a real application. She won't be just learning about science; she'll be seeing in done through the lens on medicine.
I am going to be taking the Hands-On Medicine course at BrownSummer@Brown in June. I am really excited to be taking this course because it will give me more exposure to the medical field. In school, there aren't many opportunities to actually learn what real health professionals do. I think that this program will help me understand how health professionals in the real world help people.
I am looking forward to living on an actual college campus and well as being exposed to the medical field. I chose this program because I love biology and I want to see how it is used in society. I believe that participating in this program will help me decide on whether or not I want to be Pre-Med or not.
