I come from a low income family. My life isn't that challenging for me, because my parents are working so hard to give me the best life I can get. In return, they just want me to succeed in my education. Today, I struggle with English, but I try my best and every time I overcome that frustration.
I think going to this program would make me more open-minded towards different people. One day I plan to go to college, so going to this program and working hard would be a great introduction to the college life. This program can open my eyes to reality and show me how hard I need to work in life.
I am determined to reach my goal and dream to be what I want to be, which is a computer scientist. Even if this program has nothing to do with that, I will gain a significant amount of wonderful knowledge that I need in the future and now.
Vera is one of our brightest students. She has a very high GPA, and is active in many clubs and activities. She is a student who really shines, and someone who is grateful for any help she gets.
My first day at iD Tech was very interesting, I got to meet new people that were also interested in computer science, like me. It was awesome to be surrounded by them. At first, in class I felt intimidated because I was the only girl in the classroom. I come from a school where I am not one girl, but one of many, so that made me feel uncomfortable. But I was aware of this. I tried to get comfortable with this once I got close to the computer. I was able to get into my zone and use power points to help me code on Unity.
When I first saw Unity, I thought it was going to be a very difficult programing program that I was going to be unable to code, but soon I realized that I was not alone and there were other students and a mentor to help me.
Going to ID Tech Camp was an eye opening experience. I learned so much about coding in Javascript and I learned what it means to be independent. In the future, I still plan to continue to do computer science but this also shows me that I should experience different fields in computer science. This also makes me want to go to college so I can do things on my own. Being in this setting showed me that I may be the one to stand out in the class, and that is not awful, it is unique. I also learned that I need to ask for help even if I feel uncomfortable. This also made me want to work harder in high school so I can get good grades that will take me to a good college.
Thank you for giving me this awesome opportunity to learn how to code apps for Android and Apple devices. This will allow me to explore different areas in computer science. It is also a step forward towards my career goal of creating apps. Learning these skills early is very helpful because I will get some experience.
Good luck, Vera! I'm sure you'll make a wonderful computer scientist.
