My passion is neuroscience.
This became my passion because every day there is a commercial from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which explain how they help cure life threatening diseases. After seeing this commercial in the third grade, I realized I wanted to be the doctor. I wanted to be the person who found cures and who could help people live longer. I wanted to change the world. Now with the help of the Wishbone program, I can.
I will develop my passion by attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine because at this program they focus on medicine, anatomy, and studying cancer cells. Also, they have a lot of teachers who will teach high school students how to become doctors and surgeons. This program will prepare me to find cures for diseases that were seen as hopeless.
"Hassatou loves science! Her aptitude for the material and persistence makes her one of my most exciting students to teach. Hasssatou will benefit from participating in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine because it will broaden her exposure to world-class educators and excite her for a future career in medicine. Hassatou is a bright young women, and an opportunity like this, where she is both challenged and enlivened, will pay off exponentially in her high school and college pursuits."
While going to the program, I learned how I can prepare myself to become a doctor and how medical school is going to be. To prepare for becoming a doctor, I should shadow doctors that have a MD or DO. I should also take classes that can teach me CPR and other things that are related to medicine. I predict medical school will be very hard, so I must study more frequently. This is because I will be learning a lot of facts about the human body and how I can help people become better. To be able to do this, I have to have good study habits that can help me remember these things. At the program, I met people from all over the country who want to have a future in medicine also. Some wanted to become therapists, surgeons, and pediatricians. This showed me that there were other people who had the similar dreams and who want to learn what they have to do to achieve their dreams.
I am going to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Hofstra University. At this university, I will be able to learn from actual doctors and learn how life is for a true doctor. I chose this program because it was one of the medical programs that stood out to me. The program allows students to shadow "medical professionals" and to work with "prestigious hospitals." I am looking forward to working with extraordinary doctors and I look forward to learning more about the field that I want to be in when I grow up.
