Ramatoulaye's Story

Attending YMCA Camp Jewell Leaders-in-Training will help me pursue my passion for medicine. This opportunity will teach me how to work well with others. This experience will help me learn to work well in a group. I know that if I am going to major in medicine, I will need to learn how to communicate with a wide range of people. It will be very important for me to learn to work well in a group that doesn't necessarily have the same background, ideas, concepts, or beliefs that I do. Also, by attending this program I will learn to be a leader and a great role model, which will help me in the medical field. I know that area of study is tough and competitive, but I also know that strong leadership skills and the ability to be a role model to others will demonstrate the true grit I have to thrive in the medical field.

A Note from Mr. Schlenker, Ramatoulaye's Teacher

Ramatoulaye has already begun her journey in her exploration of individual identity, team building, and self-discovery. Our school pushes students to understand who they are in a global context, and specifically a globalizing world. In every class, Rama is able to place herself into the narrative, expressing continuities and changes throughout time and how she plays a role in the world.

Ramatoulaye will make the most of her time at YMCA Camp Jewell Leaders-in-Training program this summer, honing her leadership skills, continuing to explore her identity, and learning from other young leaders.
