My passion is engineering.
As a kid, I have always been interested in hands-on projects. Being a girl, I was always interested in playing with blocks and cars. I always wanted to know how things were made or built. I guess you could say that I have always had an interest for engineering. Typically, you don't see many women engineers, which is why I am drawn to it. I am capable of more than societies expectations and that is why I love things like these and why this is a passion of mine.
Jocelyn is a passionate student who goes beyond the norm. Jocelyn grew up enjoying building blocks rather than barbies. She has recognized how expectations of women are vastly different from their male counterparts. Jocelyn knows how there isn't many women in STEM fields. She is a strong advocate for women to step into more leadership roles and to break glass ceilings. She wants to have a hands on experience to civil engineering. She is curious to learn how designs of buildings.
The Cal Poly EPIC Engineering Camp would be an essential catapult to help Jocelyn envision her dream. The many opportunities that this program provides would help Jocelyn actualize many of her dreams. This would make her feel as if she weren't alone in this path to college.
This summer with your help, I was fortunate enough to to attend the Cal Poly SLO EPIC engineering camp. When I got there I wasn't really sure what to expect but the program leaders and the others where very welcoming I didn't feel so out of place. The "classes" that we had where very hand on and I liked that and as the week went on, my interest for engineering grew as well as my interest in Cal Poly SLO. Even though I was underrepresented and a minority within the program as well a around the campus, I still learned a lot and the people that I met there have only helped my passion for engineering grow. I want to thank you again for helping make this possible and contributing to my future because I learned a lot not just about engineering and college but also about myself and what I would like to do in the future.
I am going to be a part of the Cal Poly EPIC Engineering Camp. I am really excited and looking forward to be a part of this program because it will give me a better view into my future into the field that I am interested in. I am looking forward to working with other people my age that also share similar interest and goals. I chose this program because I have had a passion for the field of engineering but I never thought that I would have an opportunity to attend a program like EPIC. This program will really help me decide what engineering field would be best for and /or if engineering is the field for me.
I'm so proud of you Jocelyn!! It's been fun getting to know you and having you help me so much here in the office!
Jocelyn will do some amazing things in the future!
I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful one hundred percent.
