My passion is to helping others such as my family. The most exciting thing about my passion is that I am able to participate in helping others to live a better life. When I am pursuing my passion I feel anxious and excited because I learn new things each time I help out.
I have had an interest in medicine since I was 16 because I began my first experience giving insulin to my grandfather when the doctor diagnosed him with diabetes. This made me realize that helping others could be a good way to open to new things in life and to be able to know what I want to become in the future.
Marisela is beginning to think about her future, and what she wants to do. She is very interested in participating in programs that give her an opportunity to explore careers and subjects that she is interested in.
The topics I was most interested in learning about were Medicine & Health Care. What I learned this summer was how I can help others with or without having to be a doctor. I also learn how to make my voice heard by throwing my own thoughts and ideas into conversations. One significant thing that I found interesting was how we all had to be a team in order to accomplish any goal. I learned how work through struggles. Another thing I found important is that we learned the process of actually examining a brain to assess the damage that has occurred. NSLC has influenced me in so many different ways for my future because they have brought many guest speakers to teach us about how they work and what they majored in in order to be in the medical field. I decided that I actually want to be part of the medical field since many doctors and nurses are needed. I would recommend NSLC to a friend if they are interested in looking into the medical field because it was a great and amazing experience! Also, I was able to learn from doctors and the nurses. You have an opportunity to actually think outside the box. My advice for people who are going to attend NSLC is to have fun and experiment with what you have in front of you. I personally love NSLC staff. They have taught me so many things in the medical field, especially my TA Grace Kennedy. She inspired me the most! NSLC is the best program for Medical & Health if you are interested in the medical field.
In the first picture I am sewing up a cut using materials that were authorized for us from a neurosurgeon.
In the second picture I am dissecting a sheep heart which was really fun because we learned the different parts of the inside of the heart.
When I think about being part of NSLC, I get very excited. Being a part of NSLC would be a good way for me to collaborate with like minded people while being in a unique and fun experience. One of the goals I have set for myself is to have more confidence and to be more independent, and I think being a part of NSLC will help me get closer to achieving this goal. One thing that I’m nervous about is getting lost on campus since it is three times bigger than my high school. A challenge that I might face would be that I might be timid because at first I will not know anybody there. I will overcome this by actually trying my best to get to know everybody in the program and ask for help when it is necessary. I am glad that I am going to be part of NSLC and am really looking forward to this summer and participating. Thanks to everyone who supported me.
I wanted to appreciate and thank you for your support and your generosity. Without your help, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn and explore what I want to study in the future. Your donation is really important and means so much to me. I am very grateful that you decided to support me in my adventure towards learning more about my future career options. Thank you so much once again.
