Julitza's Story

No matter what, creating new art pieces is something I always look forward to. I am always excited to work on new pieces because the possibilities of what to create are endless. Whatever is created in the end, great or not, is special in its own unique way. Art gives practically everything a newer sense of charm. Something as commonplace as a flower, a piece of furniture, or even a set of plain silverware can have its beauty amplified tenfold when portrayed in an art piece. Whenever I pursue my passion, I feel at ease because it is a way to escape any turmoil in my surroundings. To me, art is also versatile. It works well as a method of releasing bottled-up emotions, but it also works just as well as a casual pastime in between doing other things.

Since I was very young, I have had an affinity for art, particularly for drawing and painting. In my spare time, I often drew whatever was closest to me. I drew my family, my pets, trees, houses, etc. As I grew older, I continued to work on my techniques and to explore several different mediums. I want to learn about new mediums, and I want to improve my abilities on those that I already know about. The Academy of Art is an amazing program that will immerse me in art-intensive classes on a variety of topics, and it will expose me to a real art school environment. This is a vital opportunity to greatly increase my skills as a student and as an artist-in-the-making.

A Note from Ms. Wong-Chen, Julitza's Teacher

Julitza has an interest in Art and has taken full advantage of the visual art options on campus, as well as invests a great deal of her personal time on her craft. She would benefit from learning new techniques and attending classes we couldn’t possibly offer at our school. Julitza would benefit from meeting students from other schools and with varied interests from her; even others’ strengths in different art forms and their constructive criticism of her art will be eye opening for her. I think the process of even navigating mass transportation from home to San Francisco and the city’s busy streets will be a healthy challenge for her. It will teach her patience, flexibility and a way to speak up for herself.

Ready for a rigorous summer!

I’m super excited to be able to go to Academy of Art, an art university of high acclaim. I’m mostly excited about experiencing all that the Academy has to offer, for it will help me further my knowledge and skills in different mediums and allow me to work alongside very experienced art teachers and other students that share my passions. My goals are to create a strong art portfolio, so I can hopefully pursue a career in the visual arts. I’m nervous that I may be in for a rude awakening the moment I step into my first class. I worry the classes will be too rigorous for me to be able to handle. I will try to overcome this challenge by practicing my techniques as much as I can in the time leading up to the first class and work even harder from there.

Thank you

Thank you so much for your contribution. I am really grateful to you for your generosity and interest in helping me reach my goal. Without your support, I wouldn’t be able to pursue my passion for the fine arts at the Academy of Art Pre-College Summer Program. I promise to take full advantage of your donation and expand my abilities in all sorts of art mediums! Again, thank you so much. I am truly thankful for your generosity.
