My passion is chemistry. What makes me excited about it is just how amazing elements work in nature and experimenting with chemicals makes me so happy. I feel like I can take Chemistry where ever I go because most of the stuff around us is made of elements like Oxygen, Iron, etc. It may be weird but I think that I am a scientist when ever I bake because it is the closest thing I can do to mixing "chemicals" together. I feel like I if I really do pursue this passion, then I wouldn't have to be stumped in a career where I feel miserable everyday, and I know I will be getting into Chemistry in the near future and most likely work on research.
During the Girls Love Science Too program, I learned about intertidal organisms. I got to choose one particular organism to learn about in more depth. Visiting Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and seeing the intertidal pools made a lasting impression. This trip stuck out to me because I did not think I would enjoy this topic as much as I did. This program made me think about pursuing a career in marine biology. This way, I would be able to study more about ocean life and inform people about the ocean that surrounds them. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in marine biology because it is such a jam-packed program with lots of activities even though it is only 5 days long. This program has activities that are fun and educational for students. A piece of advice I would give other students attending this program is to be open-minded when learning about the ocean. I would also recommend stepping out of your comfort zone, especially when walking through the rocky intertidal pools. The pools are challenging to navigate, but really worthwhile in the end.
I get really excited whenever I think about this trip because the program description makes it seem like it is a fun time. It also excites me about learning more about marine life and its organisms. I did set goals for myself while attending this program; one is to absorb a lot of information being taught and two is to keep an open mind all throughout this journey. My biggest challenge that I will face during this program would be having the courage to step out of my comfort zone, because even making a tiny step I get really nervous. When I do step out of that zone I realize that there is more to life than being in that zone. So I will try to overcome this fear by actually trying it out, and try to think I will learn more if I am out there presenting my potential.
Thank you so much for the opportunity that you have given me. I highly appreciate your generosity, kindness, and support. Without this generous gesture, then I would not have been able to get to experience Girls Who Love Science program. This donation will open my mind about what it really takes to be a marine biologist, and explore more in depth about this field of work. Your generosity has helped me out immensely and again thank you very much.
I am a chemical engineer by degree and now teach physics and chemistry. We need more students willing to study "hard"subjects. Chemistry is a growing field of knowledge - thank you for wanting to contribute to that body of knowledge! Good luck in all your endeavors.
