My passion is competitive swimming.
Ever since I was little, I have always loved the water. When I joined my first competitive swim team during the summer, it was great way for me to experience what competitive swimming was like. During my sophomore year in high school, I joined my school's swim team. My goal for swimming is to become a better swimmer one step at a time. I know I can do it because I am hardworking and always give 100% effort in everything that I do.
Attending Nike Swim Camp will give me a chance to meet new people with the same interest as me and help me become a better swimmer. I hope that going to this camp will help me achieve my goal of becoming a stronger and better swimmer for the rest of my life.
When I was young, I found out that I had a learning disability that affects my audio and processing abilities. This was my biggest struggle because I was often frustrated that I could not learn the same way as other students. When I entered high school, I became more aware of my learning disability and began to ask for help when I need it in order to understand my school work better. From this experience, I learned the importance of advocating for myself. With the help of my parents and teachers, I am now an honor roll student, which is my biggest accomplishment so far.
"As a ninth grader, Alacia led her Individualized Education Program meeting in front of eight adults, creating a superb powerpoint presentation to share her learning style, strengths, areas of growth, and needs. Her passion for self-advocacy has earned her multiple virtue awards at our school-wide assembly. Alacia comes in every day for office hours and makes a point to check in with teachers about upcoming assignments and deadlines. Her incredible motivation has driven her to achieve a 3.61 GPA despite her significant needs in visual and auditory processing.
Alacia would be the perfect candidate for Nike Swim Camp. Her work ethic will accelerate her progress in the program because she knows exactly what she wants and will work relentlessly to pursue her goals."
Thank you again to everyone that helped donate to my Wishbone campaign for the Nike Swim Camp at UC Berkeley. It is a honor to be able to experience this thanks to my family, friends and teachers. The whole week was full of great surprises, like meeting Missy Franklin, meeting the coach of UC Berkeley women's swim team, and getting to be able to experience what it would be like swimming at UC Berkeley. I am grateful that I was able to experience this because of the support system I have in my life. The week was full of tough and hardworking tasks, but I still stayed committed and had fun while doing it. I made great new friends from the trip and I can feel a difference in my competitive swimming skills because of the camp. Thank you to everyone who donated, it was a great, fulfilling trip that I am glad I was able to try!
This summer, I will be going to Nike Swim camp for competitive swimming. The program is a training camp for competitive swimming and helps train swimmers who enjoy being in the water. The camp is being conducted by one of UC Berkeley's swimming coaches. I have been looking forward to meeting new people and being in a different location. This camp will help train me to become a better competitive swimmer. I would like to thank all the donors who have helped support me throughout my campaign, allowing me to achieve my goals at this camp.
I really believe that with hard work and passion you can achieve any goal you set for yourself. I wish you all the very best in your pursuits and remember never to give up! :)
