My passion is neurosurgery.
Becoming involved in the medical field became my passion in life because of the aid that it can provide to others and the satisfaction that it can bring to oneself. To be precise, since I was young I always feared getting hurt. I found what gave me solace was knowing that there are people that are trained to help me in case I became sick or injured. Becoming one of those individuals sounds like the perfect way to help others. The idea of personal satisfaction arises from the fact that if I became a doctor I’ll aid those with life threatening illnesses, conditions, and injuries, specifically those involving the brain and spine (I want to be a neurosurgeon). Having the ability to help people to live longer, healthier lives is a satisfying act in itself.
I feel strongly that attending NSLC Medicine & Healthcare will be beneficial for many reasons. Attending this program would aid me in pursuing my passion is because it will introduce me to a medical and hospital environment; I will receive valuable hands on experience rather than a classroom setting. Additionally, the program will test what I have learned with simulations, effectively cementing the acquired knowledge within me.
"I introduced Wishbone.org to Chris because I believe he represents why Wishbone.org was truly created. Chris has worked and continues to work extremely hard. His drive does not come from expectations at home, it comes from a fire within him, something that is even more unique and powerful and cannot be taught. Chris does not expect success to be handed to him.
It is students like Chris that deserve to attend prestigious summer programs as NSLC Medicine and Healthcare. There is no doubt in my mind that he will greatly benefit from the program and it would unfortunate if he was not able to do so because of a lack of financial means. I see great things for Chris and have high expectations for him, as he does himself. If the goal of NSLC is truly to educate young adults who are the great doctors of the future, then Chris should be in attendance."
Now that I have finished my stay at American University with the NSLC program I am happy to say that it was an amazing experience. I can safely say this because during the ten days I spent at American University I gained a new perspective on the medical field and became a more social person. To be specific, while in attendance I learned to look at the medical field as a place in which human interaction is vital to success; not just an afterthought to always doing things by the books. I learned this through simulations in which we diagnosed fake patients and were graded not only on accuracy but on how we connect with the patients on a personal level in order to make them feel comfortable. In addition to this, I also learned to be more social with people that I am not familiar with. This was achieved by being surrounded with new faces in the groups that I was assigned to in the program and working with them in a series of incredibly fun group projects/activities (rope climbing course, public health). I'm especially happy to have learned this due to the fact that I have always been a shy person and feel like this skill will aid me making new friends in the future. Lastly I want to conclude this by once again thanking all those who helped me attend the NSLC Medicine and Healthcare summer program because without that help I would not have been able to attend this program, which turned out to be an amazing experience and my first step in pursuing my dream in the medical field.
There's only about one more week until I go to Washington to attend the NSLC program!!! I'm so exited because I can't wait to participate in all the great activities related to medicine that will take place there. I can't help but thank all those who donated one more time, none of this would be possible without your generosity.
Chris - I wish you the best of luck this summer!
Wishing you a wonderful opportunity for exploration and learning!
I know you can achieve the goals you set for yourself. Go for it !!!!!!
I am Mrs Nelson's Mom and I know that you can do great things if given the right opportunities.
