My passion is engineering.
I discovered this passion at school during engineering class. The class incorporates two of my favorite subjects, science and math, which is lots of fun and challenging. Right now, engineering class is going great because I am very good at the sketches. I know how to draw the “one point perspective” and the “two point perspective” exceptionally well. I took it upon myself to help classmates who were struggling with the topics that came easy to me. It is important to give back to my community and classmates because that is part of my responsibility, a character trait vital to success. Inclusion is another key component to success. Whenever we have group work, I make sure everyone’s opinion is validated. I don't just agree with one idea, I let everyone have a point of view.
The National Youth Leadership Forum on Engineering and Technology will help me further develop my engineering passion. The program states many of the students will be challenged and would be working in a group. I like being challenged because it pushes me to work harder and to learn from my mistakes. I like working with other people because it allows different ideas to contribute to solving problems, and it builds off everyone’s thoughts, taking an idea from good to great. It’s critical to work together because other people could have better ideas than you.
Saul's passion truly goes beyond the surface of a teenager enjoying using their smart phone or video games, and digs deeper into his interests and performance in school. As it relates to his STEM courses, Saul is excelling. Being his math teacher, I get to see firsthand the level of intensity, curiosity and grit he puts forth in every activity. It is a pleasure to have him in class because he has a wonderful personality that embodies responsibility as he tutors students that are struggling with the material.
In addition to being Saul's math teacher, I am also his academic advisor and soccer coach, so we have gotten to know each other quite well in his two years at high school. Saul is a student who makes me excited to come to school every day because I know he will be in good spirits, always be on task, and strive to understand everything presented to him. Saul has put in the work to explore his passion as much at school as possible, and this opportunity would allow him to spread his wings and see what life as an engineer is really all about.
Thanks to those who have contributed to my campaign. I am excited to pursue my passion this summer while attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Engineering and Technology because it will give me the opportunity to explore my interest in engineering much further. This program will help me gain experience in my potential career.
I am looking forward to working with other students because it will expose me to different perspectives and help me confront real life situations. I chose this program because I have had the opportunity to take a engineering class in my high school which is where my passion for engineering originated. I believe that participating in this program will help me decide on what engineering field I wish to pursue in the future.
