My passion is History.
I discovered my passion for history when I was younger. I loved to watch movies and read books that took place in different time periods. I loved to learn about how we got to where we are today, and how the choices people made affected that. As I got older, I liked to read hard evidence instead of watching dramatization. One moment that stands out to me in particular was when we did a research project during freshman year in history class. I was able to research The People vs. Leo Frank court case and make my own reasoning based on the facts and evidence I was presented. This project truly made me understand my love of history, and how I wanted to pursue it as I got older.
Grace has a strong desire to study history. More specifically, Grace has and interest in both American and Russian history. As an avid reader and researcher, she nourishes her hunger for historical knowledge by reading books and viewing videos and documentaries.
Just recently, Grace became captivated by the book, "And The Dead Shall Rise", which tells the story of the murder of Mary Phagan and the lynching of Leo Frank, written by Steve Oney. She was further motivated to view the film, "The People v. Leo Frank", written and directed by Ben Loeterman. The story compelled Grace to continue her exploration of the racial, religious, regional and class prejudices in the early years of the 20th century. She later selected this topic to further develop into a research paper for one of her high school assignments.
"Empire of the Tsar: A Journey Through Eternal Russia", written by the Marquis de Custine, is another example of a thought-provoking book which captured Grace's attention. Her exposure to Russian autocracy through this text has fueled her craving to seek out more information about the many mysteries and injustices deeply rooted within the history of the Russian government.
This summer I went to Brown University with the help of Wishbone and you! I had a really great time living and studying in Providence and will always keep it in my memory.
Thank you so much again!
Grace
Hello! Thank you for helping me reach my goal so I can attend the Summer@Brown program! I have now been enrolled into a course about art history and I'm patiently awaiting the end of school so I can go. The reason I chose the Brown summer program is because it gives me the opportunity to take a high level course about something I want to learn about that they don't offer at my high school. The program was close enough to home that I feel safe and gives me the chance to experience college before I know what I'm looking for. Again, thank you so much and I can't wait to update you on how the program went!
Good Luck Gracie! Hopefully they will approve your project!!
Love, kelly & Talulah
