My passion is Pre-College.
The passion I have for pre-college is very strong because in my family, my dad took online courses at a 2 year college, and my mom didn't go to college at all. I believe I have what it takes to change my family's future. Attending the UConn Pre-College Summer Program will help me pursue my dream of becoming a college student. I want to attend a 4 year college, where I can get my bachelors degree. I would love to apply to UConn when considering my college options because I hear that the university has a great accounting/actuary program for college students (I would like to become an actuary when I grow up).
Nathan is a quick learner and a solid student, but just like many of our youth in the district, he will be a first generation college student and thus has very little idea of what a college course load entails. The experience of being on a campus surrounded by strangers, taking classes, and having to become familiar with an unfamiliar situation will be enormously beneficial to him-- more so than a student who is not a first generation college attendee. I also think Nathan will enjoy the experience of getting to know a heterogeneous group of people. East Hartford, though racially diverse, is a homogeneous population in all other respects. I'd like to see Nathan meet new people, hear fresh ideas, and see that there is a better life waiting for those willing to work for it.
I am going to be participating in the Digital Media Workshops this summer. I am really excited to be joining the program because it will give me the time to work with computers and create things I enjoy at home. I feel that in school, there aren't many opportunities to get the chance to explore the different areas of digital media, and outside of school is the only way to do it. I think that this program will help me develop the understanding of what I want to do when I grow up.
Nathan is an awesome 15 almost 16 year old young man and is extremely dedicated to his academics and sports curriculum. We are so proud of him!!!!!
