My passion is health care and medicine.
I think the first time I discovered an interest in this field was when my father had surgery for his throat. I remember being very inquisitive about how the doctors had helped him get better. I also had a lot of questions about what they did and how they performed the surgery. Ever since then, I have been very interested in surgery. A couple years after my father's surgery, I found a program on TV that explained some things that happened in the Emergency Room at the hospital. The show usually explained the most severe trauma cases, and most of the time these patients had to go through surgery. After they showed what procedures the doctors did and how they helped the patient, I was completely passionate about this career and I wanted to learn more.
I know that the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute will help me explore my passion by helping me learn more about surgery and how surgeons can help and affect the people in my community and all over the world. I know that the program will help me understand the different types of procedures there are, and the different types of surgeons that perform them. The Stanford Pre-Collegiate program will also help me further develop my passion about becoming a surgeon because I will get to experience better classes about health and medicine than the ones my school offers.
I met Glenda the summer before 6th grade, and, since that day, she has wanted to attend Stanford University. Whenever talking about Stanford and her possible future there, she glows. Therefore, at the very least, I believe that attending the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute would give Glenda a taste of the future that she is working so hard for. Additionally, Glenda is one of the most academically talented and highly motivated students that I've taught. Since our high school does not offer many AP classes nor a wide range of electives, attending the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute would allow Glenda to accelerate her academic pursuits in an environment full of peers who are at or above her level.
I am so thankful for having the opportunity to go to the Stanford Precollegiate Summer Institute. I have learned so much about Biotechnology. I learned all about recombinant DNA, the immune system, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), infectious diseases and much more. We even got to learn about chemistry! With all of this new knowledge, I have gained a new and deeper understanding about what biotechnology is, how it works, and I have found out that I love it. I will definitely be able to use what I learned and apply it to help me achieve my goal of becoming a surgeon.
This experience has definitely changed my life. Not only do I now know what a college class is like, but I got to learn so much and meet so many different people. This program has also helped me become more independent. One way it made me more independent was that we had classes at the Medical School, so I had to get all around campus by myself. Being at Stanford has made me realize that I want to keep pushing myself further so I can get to where I want to be. I have no doubt that it will be a long and difficult path, but I will not give up. Thank you for helping me have such an amazing summer. I will never forget my summer at the Stanford Precollegiate Summer Institute.
I have been having an amazing time at the Stanford Precollegiate Summer Institute. They have community events so you can meet a plethora of new people. I have made a lot of new friends, and this was at the carnival we had on the weekend (I'm in the hat and glasses). Me and my friends had a great time. I am so glad I have gotten to meet so many new people and hear their stories.
I am feeling very excited to attend the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes. I will be taking a course titled Topics in Bioscience and Biotechnology. Ever since I was a child I was interested in science and in the medical field, and because of these courses, I will have the opportunity to learn new things. I know that by taking these courses, I will be challenging myself by learning about these subjects at a higher level, and I will be better prepared for my future. I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends. I want to thank all of the people that donated to my campaign because I would not be able to attend without your help.
