My passion is dance.
I discovered my passion for dance around the age 9. I loved dancing then and I love dancing now! I remember dancing around my bedroom for hours. That’s when I started performing for my family at holidays parties. Then when I started middle school at Kings Collegiate, during my first year I joined the Hip Hop Club to get me out of my shell. I also performed at school shows with my dance club. My hip hop teachers would call me “little Beyoncé”. That’s when I really started to build up my confidence and embrace my talent and passion in dance.
Tanaeja is a member of my cheerleading squad. I can tell she has not had formal dance training, but she soaks in every instruction that I give her in regards to sharpness, precision, facial expressions, etc. She is so eager to learn and grow; she always stands front and center during practice ready and attentive during all instruction. She takes feedback well, and immediately works on her corrections so she can improve. I can't wait to see how she blossoms as a performer once she begins taking classes at the Broadway Dance Center and learns more technique.
At Broadway Dance Center Open Classes I took an hour and 30 minutes of hip hop dance and sometimes it would be different levels of hip hop like basic or advance. Advance hip hop was more of challenge but I like that because it helped me test my dancing skills and challenge myself against other people there who were African American like myself or from another background who probably been dancing for more years than me . Overall , attending Broadway Dance Center Open Classes helped open my eyes to more of what I wanted to do in my future which is to be a professional dancer . When the teachers would say act like your auditioning for a spot in a dance with Beyoncé that would encourage me to dance harder . Also I realized that I do have great talent and a lot of potential and that I'm a determined female who takes risk dancing in a room with people I never met ! Since Broadway Dance Center was in the city and I live in Brooklyn it helped me manage my time so I didn't arrive late. I really enjoyed my time and would love to take the dance classes again this time trying Jazz !
Tanaeja, Broadway Dance Center is a big part of why I moved back to New York City! I hope you soak up every minute of your program!
