My passion is Computer Science.
My father is a photographer and a video editor. Watching his work and learning from him inspired me to try video editing as well in my own free time. My brother is also a huge technology person; he recently assembled his own PC for a better gaming experience and faster browsing. The influence from my family encouraged me to join the Computer Interactive (C/I) Club that was offered at my school. Without knowing how fun and enjoyable the club was going to be, I knew that I was going to learn how to code and create my own website. Through hard work and dedication to my practice, I am well on my way to creating my own website from scratch and learning more about coding as a whole. Learning these skills now will open many opportunities for future successful careers in computer engineering, coding, and more.
Attending Cooper Union Summer STEM Program will help me to explore my passion for programming and possibly engineering. It opens many career opportunities that pay well and that are also something I would like to do in life. Not only could the STEM program open my eyes for future careers, but it can also inspire me to explore a different side of art. I am a visual art major at Fordham High School for the Arts and sometimes there are moments that I am uninspired. I truly believe that taking this STEM program at Cooper Union will help me open my mind to other possibilities. I am truly interested in the ways in which the art and science fields can support one another to achieve unbelievable things. I also believe that the more I know about the world, the better understanding I will have with figuring out what I want to do in life and what I want to accomplish. I am excited for the opportunity to be at Cooper Union for the summer because I truly believe that this experience will open my eyes to a whole new world of the uses of technology and the impact that technology can have on society.
Angelica is an incredibly motivated student who does not shy away in the face of challenges. As her Chemistry teacher, I have been working with Angelica since September. On the first day of class, I assigned "jobs" to all of my students by introducing the concept with a list of possible jobs. Angelica immediately signed up for the role of technology expert." On the second day of class, my projector broke. Right away, Angelica popped up to fulfill her role of technology expert and stood in front of the class confidently to work with me to get the projector back up and running. She quickly impressed me with her ability to understand a problem and propose a solution, even under pressure.
I was not surprised when Angelica showed up to the first meeting of my computer science club, Code Interactive. She has been extremely committed to the program, spending extra time at home following through with the online tutorials and building her own website. She also infuses her work with her art and is learning how to create art pieces with her ability to code. Our Code Interactive club can only offer a certain level of exposure and there is so much more that Angelica could explore in the field of technology. I know that she could learn so much more if she were able to attend a summer camp that was specifically built to help students create and build with technology.
Thank you again for donating to my campaign! Honestly, I was going to do a post before the first day of my summer program at Cooper Union, but instead I decided to make a post after my first day. My first day was great! I was given more than I expected and I also ran into some internal obstacles. However, I did not let that get in the way of enjoying my environment and getting comfortable with the diversity of students attending the program. There is a large group of students who are rising juniors, like me, and there are also a large group of students who are rising seniors and it's nice to get to know everyone's experiences from before coming into this program. I had a chance to get to know a lot of the instructors, and the thing I like the most is that they treat us like college students in a collge classroom. The intructors told us exactly what they were expecting and what we should expect from them. Overall, this program is a huge opporunity and more! Thank you! If you would like to follow my journey through this program, feel free to check on my updates on my blog: www.angelicamezablog.wordpress.com
