My passion is music.
I always loved hearing music every since I was small. I loved the fact that any one song can give you such intense feelings of happiness, anger, and so on. I remember in the 3rd grade, I would go into my parents' room to put in a CD. I'd just lay there listening to music, thinking about love, hate, and all my emotions. Sometimes, I'd clear my head and only think about the rhythm, beat, and melody of the music. When my school finally had a music class, I took it, and that's where my love for music and bass guitar became concrete. I bought my own bass and practiced every day. My music teacher really was one of the many people that introduced me to Jazz and Funk. Some of the people that I look up to now are Jaco Pastorius, Bootsy, and of course Victor Wooten. Music for me was and still is a big part of my life.
Attending Stanford Jazz Camp would help me learn and improve as a musician. It would help improve my ear and help me not only learn but understand jazz theory. It will help me improve my groove and timing. Me entering this program will finally give me formal classes on bass guitar - something I never had, so that's something I'm looking forward to. Formal bass guitar classes will help me improve things that I don't even know need improving. Also playing with other musicians will improve my timing and also increase my experience with playing not just by myself but with other musicians. It would give me a feel for the environment and see what to expect from other musicians. Being in this camp will help me pursue my dream of becoming one of the greatest bass players in this world. anyone can say this but I'm actually giving it my all.
When I first talked to him about playing the bass, he gave it a try and was immediately hooked. I've never seen anyone improve so quickly in my 20 years of teaching. Within just a few months, he was one of the most accomplished musicians at our school. Despite having only played for just over a year at this point, he has made a great deal of progress due to a phenomenal work ethic and tremendous focus. What he really needs is to be immersed in a jazz environment in order to bloom. He is thirsty for information, guidance and a community of like-minded, equally driven musicians. He's serious, studious, creative and, like I said, hungry for this!

Yayyyyy Fernando! I'm so glad you're cultivating a craft that you feel so passionately about! Just don't play any of that too-smooth stuff :)
