Carolina's Story

My passion is ballet.

When I was eight years old my aunt introduced me to the world of ballet. I saw a Nutcracker performance at the Paramount Theater in Oakland during a Christmas holiday. I enjoyed the dancing and costumes and decided that I wanted to try to learn to dance. Through my aunt's employment I was able to attend ballet classes at the YMCA in Berkeley California. I've progressed to Pointe level and continue to enjoy dancing. My goal is to continue to learn and improve.

This ballet intensive will help me explore my passion for ballet because the week long intensive will immerse me in the world of ballet. As I attend the week long intensive I will focus on my form, learn from my mistakes, and become a stronger dancer. This intensive will give me the opportunity to work with other ballet instructors and explore a classroom setting different than the one I currently attend.

"Carolina studies ballet weekly and has a strong passion for dancing. She is dedicated to learning as much as she can about the craft (both by improving her personal skills/technique and by learning the history of ballet), and wants to progress in skill beyond the classes available to her currently. Her determination to apply for Wishbone to help her pay for summer opportunities is just one manifestation of her commitment to ballet.

Participating in Ballet Dance Intensive this summer will give Carolina a meaningful summer experience that she can write about on her college applications (a requirement for many colleges, including the University of California system). Receiving outside support of her passion will help positively reinforce to her the value of actively pursuing opportunities."

Thank you all, preparing for ballet intensive

As of today there are approximately six weeks until my week long ballet intensive begins. I'm so very excited and can't wait to join the class. As of now, I have to focus on school and prepare for eleventh grade finals. In order to ready myself for the intensive class, I will do my daily stretches to stay in shape and do leg work on the bar to stay limber. Additionally, the first thing I have to do is sew the ribbons onto my point shoes.
