My passions are film and media. My passion for film and media stemmed from the love I have for photography since I was young. I have always had a great interest in film, but when I think about it, my enthusiasm began to emerge during last year. The more I watched, the more fascinated I became with the artistry and imagination brought to life on screen. The more films I watched, whether it was an action, courtroom drama or coming age, I found myself astonished and intrigued by the many, what some may call "small components," like the music, location, and the b-roll footage.
At the Education Unlimited Video Production Camp I will be able to grow my knowledge about what it takes to make a film. This program will also help me build the skill set I need to get into the film's history and become a filmmaker and composer.
Sophia is a very curious student who is eager to learn. She is always immersing herself in books and online research sources on any topic she is interested in - film and the arts included. Sophia would benefit greatly from participating in the Education Unlimited Video Production Camp because I think it would give her great exposure to the industry/career field that she is hoping to pursue. Plus, attending the camp would allow Sophia to meet other young, passionate creators who are also doing big things in the arts! Attending the camp would give her a wide network of likeminded individuals and would allow her to really apply all the independent research and work she has done.
Since I am from the Bay Area going to stay at the dorms of UC Berkeley was like a staycation. On the official first day of camp, I learned about shot terms and storyboarding. The instructor of the class wanted us to remeber what the terms were so we made a shot list using the terms and went out to film. On the first day of shooting things were awkward between all of us, but soon enough we all became comfortable with one another which helped with productions. I also learned about composition and how to write a documentary script. This camp is something that I'm genuinely thankful that I was able to attend because I was able to meet people from different backgrounds. I also learned skills that I can apply in everyday life that will help me make better films.
I am sitting with my advocate planning out how I am going to get to the Video Production Camp from my house to BART. From the BART station to the beautiful campus of UC Berkley. I am also sitting planning ideas about what I want to film upon arriving at the production camp. What I am looking forward to is learning about what it takes to produce visual content.
