My passion is education.
Education is my passion because I know that education is the key to success, and I want to become very successful in life. As an African American, I am statistically at a disadvantage when it comes to education and achieving success. However, that reality only motivates me to try harder and do better than the people who came before me.
By attending Harvard Secondary School Program, I will further develop my passion for education by taking college classes and experiencing college life. At Harvard, I will take classes about creative writing and expository writing. I also look forward to learning more about the classes I can take as college student and meeting new people with similar interests.
"Ayesha is an excellent candidate for both Wisbhone and Harvard Secondary School Program because of her dedication, commitment, and willingness to pursue and overcome challenges. Ayesha's proven ability to handle challenges as well as her commitment to seeing challenges through make her an excellent candidate for this rigorous program. Harvard Summer School would offer Ayesha an amazing opportunity to continue to challenge herself academically and get a deeper understanding of the college experience."
My summer at Harvard was the best summer of my life. It was a much needed transition into my senior year of high school. I stayed in one of the senior houses (Eliot house) and my room over looked the beautiful Charles River. I met so many wonderful people from all over the world and learned a lot from them. I went to the New England aquarium and attended a whale watching trip. I took two classes, Introduction to Psychology and African Literature. I really enjoyed taking Introduction to Psychology because I want to study Psychology when I attend college. For my Psychology class, I had to participate in research projects. Being a participant opened my eyes to the importance of research, which is very important: in order to publish something to the public, there needs to be experiments that show how it affects people and what the researcher has observed. I enjoyed taking African Literature because the novels that we read and the movies that we watched were very eye-opening.
The campus was very beautiful and very different from NYC: trees everywhere, green grass, food trucks on campus, farmer’s markets on Tuesdays, Freecycle used item buying on campus, salsa dancing and Zumba classes outside. My friends and I went to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, where there were many restaurants, stores, and a lot of street performances, which I really enjoyed. In the beginning of this program, I thought I would be homesick but after the first two weeks of being at Harvard I felt right at home. I am very thankful that I was able to attend the Harvard Secondary Summer School Program; it was a very memorable experience. Thank you so very much to everyone who donated!!!
I am very excited to be attending the Harvard Secondary Summer School Program this summer! I will be taking two classes: African-American Studies and Introduction to Psychology. I am very excited about these classes because I want to study them when I go to college. I cannot wait until my classes start so that I can make new friends and learn new things. I am very grateful to partake in this experience. Thank you!
Have fun!!
