My passion is art.
My passion for drawing was discovered at a very early age. I started drawing to cope, and I did it unconsciously. I didn't realize the positive impact it had on me: it calmed me down, made me happy, made me feel sane. Everyone in my family knew how to draw and have their own artistic skills. It was a time for us to be together and express ourselves. We would have drawing competitions, create matching jackets, and design custom shoes. It was a good way of family bonding.
FIT High School Summer Live would help me challenge myself and my artistic abilities. I know for sure that I will enjoy the experience, and it will be beneficial for me. I will create great bonds with the other kids, and I will learn new terminology, tools, and techniques. I will be so happy and encouraged to pursue the art field for a career. At this program, I'm sure it will help me narrow my interests for majors and serious careers for my future. It would be a great way to take myself out of my comfort zone and try new things with my passion for art.
Amina would make a great candidate for FIT High School Summer Live. I am currently the only art teacher at the school and try to teach a variety of courses. With great variation in courses does come scheduling issues for students. Someone like Amina is the perfect example of this. Because it is so difficult for Amina to fit the right art classes into her schedule, I truly believe she would benefit from an outside program. In addition to this, I think it would be a great opportunity for Amina to get into the habit of participating in outside programs so that she can start to find productive ways to spend her time away from home if she is having frustrations there. Amina is incredibly talented and responds well to feedback, so I think she would greatly benefit from additional art teachers or professionals looking at her work!
This was an amazing and inspirational experience. I learned so many new techniques and terminology when it comes to painting. Starting from abstract and going on to more figuritive paintings was a new experience that made painting as a whole more easing and understanding. I felt more comfortable picking up a paint brush as the days went by. I also felt more confident in picking my own color schemes to represent certain feelings or scenary.
