Aaliyah's Story

My passion is Cultural Studies.

My passion for Cultural Studies was discovered in my daily interactions with the world around me. Living in the most culturally diverse neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens, New York has taught me how to negotiate and deal with many types of situations on a daily basis. Attempting to learn the culture and customs of my friends and their families has broadened my horizons and helped me to see the world through a much wider lens while understanding that many types of world views make our community stronger. I hope to learn how to be a better negotiator and mediator so that I can better communicate and help others through situations that can at types turn tense.

Attending Centenary Summer Scholars will help me pursue my passion for Cultural Studies as I will be able to take many different classes on the topic and deepen my knowledge of the topic. I hope to learn from professors about how to create a career out of Cultural Studies.
