Jose's Story

My passion is engineering.

When I was in 9th grade, I didn't have anything to do after school, but my school had a maker center. The maker center is a room that is filled with many tools including a saw, drills, laser cutters and 3D printers. I was lured in by the laser cutter. Its precision and effectiveness amazed me. After that day, I would go into the maker space everyday and I learned all of the tricks that it took to master the laser cutter. I learned how to use the 3D printer which is more complex because it deals with 3 dimensions. From that day on I felt that my passion was engineering.

Jose is committed and loyal. He is hardworking and follows through on commitments. He is focused and driven to learning and achieving. Jose gains motivation from his younger brother Darwin, who is in middle school.

Coupled with being persistent, Jose is patient. His gentle, congenial nature make him easy to be around. These qualities will surely help him to get the most out of the iD Tech Camps SF Bay Area program and simultaneously add texture and joy to the program.

Pre-Attendance Update

I am going to be participating in the Tech ID Camp at UC Berkeley this summer. I am really excited to be joining the program because it will give me the option to look into other categories of engineering and computer sciences. I feel that in school, there aren't many opportunities to look into engineering, so, for me, participating in programs outside of school is the only way to do it. I think that this program will help me develop passion for engineering and computer sciences.

I am looking forward to working with other people my age and sharing ideas and advice with one another. I chose this program because I have loved engineering ever since I was little, and I constantly think of little things I can build or put together. I believe that participating in this program will help me decide on whether or not I want to major in engineering when I grow up or not.
