I am passionate about helping people.
I have always been a compassionate person and it is my dedication to help others who are in need. Last year, I volunteered as an assistant for a 3rd grade teacher and I would go in two days of the week to help the kids who were behind in reading. I really enjoyed this experience and was so happy I could help these children. I believe that every person should have the trait of compassion and a duty to help others.
I believe that this program that they offer will not only let me expand my passion but also to explore more of my passion. I believe that I will have a greater opportunity to learn more during this program. Since I have always been reduced to the resources around me, I believe by going to this program I will be learning more things about my passion. This program is designed to help achieve more of my passion and goals. I feel these are the next steps to becoming a leader instead of a follower.
Barbara has an incredible passion and talent for all things related to the STEM field- particularly mathematics. Our school already has a rigorous curriculum which includes Advanced Placement level Math courses that students take. However, Barbara recognized that she was still not being challenged enough when it came to Math, and on her own initiative asked me if there was a way that she could take an extra Math course. Together we created a individualized plan for her to independently complete an entire Pre-Calculus course so that she could take both AP Statistics and AP Calculus before she graduates. Barbara diligently completed her coursework, independently learned the material from online resources, and successfully completed course projects with minimal teacher guidance. This demonstrates Barbara's desire to go above and beyond what is expected of even the most high-achieving students. Independently completing an extra Math course is a true testament to this student's level of responsibility, as well as the pride and ownership she has in her education.
This program has completely changed my outlook on my life and the people around me. I have learned so much about how to develop myself as a leader and a warrior. I feel like I can make an impact on a person's life even if it is tiny. This program had so many different elements; it was an emotional journey. For example, you can be happy and excited in one moment then the next moment, you can be silent and contemplating life. The people were the most amazing part of my experience, they were all so accepting and happy. I would not have changed one thing about my summer this year. I am truly grateful for the people who helped contribute to this wonderful summer.
As my junior year is coming to a end, I feel more and more anxious yet excited for this summer program. There are not enough words to describe my gratitude for everyone who has helped me on my journey. I feel very confident that I will experience new things that will build my leadership skills. I am also excited to meet new people, develop new friendships, and see the university. I have never been there but I have great hopes that everything will turn out okay. Thank you all who have believed me and I hope to be in touch soon!
My sons have received help in scholarship form to attend life changing summer programs at Duke and Vanderbilt. Without help from others, my sons would not have been able to experience these programs that have been life-changing not only educationally, but personally with special friendships and contacts. Great luck to you and wish you the very best.
