Giselle's Story

My passion is to be outdoors and to explore, learn, and better understand the nature around us.

I have always been interested in the natural world. This year I am doing a project on rising sea levels and it's impact on our marshes and insects. I learned the importance of our environment, the damage being done, and what we can do to prevent future damage. The Trail Blazers, Leaders in Training program could help me research and evaluate how we could be more self‐efficient. The program allows students like myself to participate in outdoor leadership development activities. The program offers students both environmental leadership development and life skills, and I have never had an opportunity quite like it. Leadership development helps us youth become positive role models in our individual communities. I want to return with the confidence to speak within my community, and motivate others to take action to preserve the planet.

As a professional scientist and educator, I am in awe of Giselle's tenacity and determination. She will make a great fit for any educational program. She is a self-starter, systems-thinker that is able to see the forest and the trees. Giselle is up-for-the-challenge and her passion for the outdoors will only grow with the opportunity to participate in a educational leadership program. She will be a perfect fit!

My time in New Jersey

Honestly, I was convinced I was not going to survive in the woods for a whole month without technology. But I made it. It was very hard at fist I did not like anything about trailblazers to be honest. I did not like how it was un-organized, the actives were boring, the food was horrible. But the people I have grown to love and they cheered me on till the day I left. It wasn't even the people I got to grow up knowing how to be more independent. I got to learn new experiences I never thought I would have. I am really grateful for wishbone and I want to say Thank you so much for being my sponsor!!!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity! I am very excited on what this summer will bring while attending Trail Blazers LIT Program. I just wanted to say thank you to the donors who helped make this possible. Without your help, I would not be attending. Any chance to be outside will help further my dream to pursue Environmental Conservation and Engineering in college.
