My passion is learning.
Learning might seem like a completely clichéd passion, but there is more to it for me than the actual acquiring of knowledge. I am passionate about doing something with the knowledge that I acquire in order to make a change. It does not have to be an immense difference, but I want to be a part of making some change in this world.
My insatiable curiosity is generally the reason I love to learn. By attending Harvard Summer School, I will be subject to an environment where I will be able to interact with a diverse cohort that will influence the way I see everything around me. I will not be treated as a teenager from New York City but as an intellectual individual who is taking classes with other like-minded individuals.
"Skipping a grade is no easy feat. When this opportunity arose for Veronica, those around her cautioned her to tread lightly and consider her options. However, Veronica handled this transition with ease and grace, maintaining a stellar GPA and finding a way to maintain old friendships while finding her place among older peers. This goes to show what a determined and ferocious academic-minded individual Veronica is.
Harvard Summer School offers so many unique experiences. At this program, Veronica will have the chance to grow as an individual and flourish in a living learning community with other individuals who share her caliber of intellect. Of all the students I have ever worked with, there are none I consider more perfect for this program than Veronica."
It has been a few days since I left Harvard and I cannot help but miss it. This opportunity was something I probably would have never been able to do otherwise, and I cannot imagine having gone on without this experience. It was an incredibly tearful goodbye, but now I keep in touch with friends from completely different countries (anywhere from Switzerland to Cuba!). I was able to take two college level courses and passed both with flying colors. I feel so much more prepared to go on to college and even feel more confident in my current school studies. I'm incredibly excited for what my future will bring! I cannot explain how happy I am right now, but I would like to thank you all for making this possible. You made my dream come true this summer.
When I applied to my program, I was so scared that I wouldn't even get in. Now, it seems surreal to think that I am less than a week away from starting the Harvard Secondary School Program. It still amazes me that other people cared so much about giving me a chance at this incredible opportunity that they gave up some of their time and money to support me. I am incredibly happy and excited; words truly cannot express how grateful I am toward everyone that is helping me through this journey.
Through the program, I am taking a philosophy and psychology course this summer. Soon I’ll have to start buying my course materials and packing up to head out. I’m a little nervous about making friends and what my professors will be like, but on the other hand, my excitement is almost tangible. Every chance I get I talk about what it is that I will be getting to do at Harvard. Honestly, it’s more like a wish that was granted to me since I know that I would’ve never been able to do this without help.
As the days go by, I feel more ready to do this. My counselor has helped me build a pretty strong support network here in New York City and I hope to do the same when I get to Cambridge. I took some time to visit the area a few weeks ago and it was incredibly beautiful. I’ve promised to myself that I will work as hard as possible to not disappoint everyone who is currently helping me or who will guide my path into the future. All I can say to all of you right now is thank you very much. Thank you for everything!
