My passion is the field of architecture.
Back in the summer of 2012, more than three years ago, I helped my dad to buy our house. Every weekend, I would follow him to visit open houses and model homes throughout the whole East Bay. By then, my passion in the field of architecture has been developed. Finally, we found a fairly new house that looked very similar to one of the model homes we visited. Within a few months of living in the house, I found out that there was construction happening a few blocks north to my house. I started taking pictures of each of the construction process and saved these pictures on my computer. Even today, I am still continuing to take and will be taking more pictures in the future. As soon as the sales office opened, I studied the floor plans of the houses that they were building. I began trying to imitate it, drawing houses and floorplans. At first, I was not drawing in correct proportions, but later, my uncle, who was an architect, showed me the correct way to draw floor plans. I quickly learned, and fixed my incorrect floorplans with accurate measurements and symbols. Eventually, this became the thing I spent the largest time on, next to schoolwork. Finally, I have discovered that I have fallen in love with my passion, architecture.
"I'm so excited to see Pang open his opportunities outside of the school walls. Only in his sophomore year in high school (and within the first semester, at that), he is yearning for more ways to get involved and be challenged. I'm excited to see him collaborate with like-minded students to help him better his leadership skills and communication skills with his peers. Academically, he goes above and beyond all of his teachers' expectations. This is hardly challenging for him. But, participating in a program that he's passionate in and has the opportunity to learn more about architecture and collaborate with peers that have similar goals, that would be challenging!"
In my past four weeks at embARC Summer Design Academy, I learned about the basic principles of architecture and also each of the majors at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. I met students from across the United States and around the world who share my passion for the field of architecture. In addition, I collaborated with my peers to build a shed for the Verde Elementary Garden in North Richmond. But most of all, I experienced what it's like to be a college student, particularly a student majoring in architecture. With these experiences at embARC, I am ready to start my journey towards a major in architecture. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and that first step is embARC Summer Design Academy.
I am going to attend the EmbARC Summer Design Academy at the University of California at Berkeley this summer. I am very excited for this summer program because it will allow me to explore my passion in the field of architecture. In the past, I've always wanted to learn about the basic principles of architecture, such as drawing, modeling, and computer-aided design. However, there weren't many opportunities to receive formal education in the field of architecture. Luckily, I found this great opportunity to learn about architecture through Wishbone, and, because of your help and support, I am able to participate in this great program this summer. I would like to especially thank those who donated to my campaign, for it wouldn't be possible without your help and support. I believe that this program will be my first step to architecture—my passion and career goal.
I am looking forward to working with other people who share the same passion in architecture as I do and collaborating on a project with a common goal. I chose this program because I have loved drawing maps, creating floor plans, and visiting nearby construction sites ever since the eighth grade, and I am constantly think of ideas of buildings and streets. I believe that participating in this program will help me gain both the knowledge and experience in the field of architecture. Attending EmbARC Summer Design Academy lays the foundation for my future career in the field of architecture.
